‘Mime Your Life’: Compilation of ‘Rare’ Stage Plays

The Qum Actors (TQA) theatre company in Kuala Lumpur will present “Mime Your Life!”, a compilation of stage plays with various concept of performances including mime, short play, staged reading, monologue and improvisation. The performances will be held on 20th and 21st December 2010 at the National Arts Gallery, Kuala Lumpur in collaboration with Rantai Art Festival “GRAVITY” which is organized by Rantai.Art, a non-profit art organization aimed to facilitate participation in art by community.

“Mime Your Life!” focuses on mime performances which is still considered ‘rare’ to the Malaysian theatre scene. There will be six solo mime sketches performed by young Malaysian mime newcomers such as ASH, Cairell and A.Noisef. Each mime artist will ‘mime our life’ with their unique representation of the real life without using any props or equipments except their body or probably the audiences’ body.

Another main attraction is the staged reading of a Malay short play entitled “Nasi Lemak Seposen”, a winning script from Kakiseni’s Kakiscript Playwriting Competition. Written by a young playwright, Akin Muhammad, this play explores the dark side of both the urban landscape and the human heart, presented in a tightly drawn tale about money, compassion, humility and murder.

Theatre practitioner cum lecturer from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Dr.Shark will stage his short sketch “Ketopat Oh Ketupat” which promised to tickle the audience. Dr.Shark will also appear in his monologue “Terrorist In Custody” and an improve piece entitled “Hmm..Oh..Hmm..”.

“Mime Your Life!” will entertain audiences with funny and amazing mime acts. Viewers will also experience the freshness of modern performing arts, all under one roof for FREE and most notably, all of them are created and staged by engineering students and technology professionals.
